It's difficult for Australia to set fresh records.

The highest peaks have already been conquered.

We're talking about the team that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, along with another six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed nearly four years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, targeted by the peak baggers, are the only things left for a side that has won it all.

That it took until Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase exceeding 300, taking back their record for the highest in the female 50-over format, is, honestly, a tribute to the bowlers that have represented Australia over the last half-century.

It's challenging for their batsmen to maintain a record if not provided the opportunity.

Finally, the outcome of Australia allowing 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy receiving an opportunity to deliver her latest masterpiece.

Then best known as the young family member of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after Australia couldn't capture either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups conducted earlier and has experienced everything through 15 championship-filled years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup arrived three months after her debut and seven international trophies have followed from 10 attempts across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India briefly halted the run of success.

That loss "pushed us to reevaluate our levels," Healy commented earlier.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the final and was declared player of the series. She ensured her country would not fall short again.

The question of whether this latest epic knock surpassed that earlier display remains open for discussion.

Some will argue the case for the pressure of a final. Others can counter with the difficulty that comes when confronting a historic chase and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What's definite is this ton was much more difficult to see coming.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 happened while she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings came after six matches in India since the start of last month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've observed me in practice sessions, it has been a frustrating experience because I feel like I lacked timing completely," said Healy.

"However when you enter the playing area, your competitive nature take over and you just lock into the competition."

Healy's fighting spirit has continuously been her key asset - and an irreplaceable characteristic in replacing legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, fallen to the emerging pace bowler in every game, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's spark.

A single was taken off Gaud's first delivery and after that Healy was in motion.

"An opportunity to go out there and engage in competition with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, sort of got me going," commented Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 pitches - her swiftest at the World Cup - and her ton in 84 balls as she punished short deliveries, striking 21 boundaries and three sixes.

By the time she was out the team needed 66 more at run per delivery - a manageable total now needing a comfortable finish.

"Chasing 330 runs is unfamiliar ground so I'm happy we have the confidence to do that now," stated Healy further.

"Ideally we won't need to repeat it but, if necessary, we believe we can succeed."

That comment will be the final thing Australia's opponents at this tournament want to hear.

In recent days a belief they will win from any position has only strengthened - this victory succeeding win against Pakistan by 107 runs despite struggling at 76-7 at one stage.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a meeting with traditional opponents England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final place may likely be confirmed.

It was at that stage they left last year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - an encounter Healy was absent due to torn tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the first time at a significant event.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she regretted not playing despite the injury.

Yet even as she later admitted those physical issues have pushed back thoughts of retirement, this championship is anticipated as her final tournament as skipper in 50-over cricket and she is still to achieve an international tournament as skipper.

Victory in India would lead her to the peak of her last major obstacle.
